Unified Payments Interface (UPI) — Light
Last updated: 1 September 2026
These UPI Terms of Use ("UPI Terms") govern your access to and use of Unified Payments Interface services made available through the Light mobile application and the website www.lightcred.com (together, the "Light Platform").
The Light Platform is owned and operated by Profitag Technologies Private Limited, a company incorporated under the Companies Act, 2013, having its registered office at 22A, C Wing, Mhatre Plaza Apartment, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Kandivali West, Mumbai 400067, Maharashtra, India ("Profitag", "Light", "we", "us" or "our").
UPI is a real-time payment system developed, owned and operated by the National Payments Corporation of India ("NPCI"), an authorised payment system operator under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007. Light participates in UPI solely as a Third Party Application Provider (TPAP) through its sponsor Payment Service Provider bank, YES Bank Limited ("PSP Bank"). Light is not a bank and does not hold, control or settle customer funds.
By registering for or using UPI services on the Light Platform, you agree to these UPI Terms. If you do not agree, do not register for or use the UPI services.
These UPI Terms supplement and must be read with Light's general Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy. Where there is a conflict in relation to UPI services, these UPI Terms prevail. Annexure A (Safe UPI Practices), Annexure B (UPI Participants — Roles and Responsibilities) and Annexure C (NPCI Disclosures) form an integral part of these UPI Terms; Annexures B and C are published in the format prescribed by NPCI.
In these UPI Terms, unless the context requires otherwise, the following expressions have the meanings set out below. Capitalised terms used but not defined here have the meaning given to them in Light's general Terms and Conditions.
Applicable LawUPI services on the Light Platform are available only to resident individuals in India. UPI may be used only for domestic transactions between India-based accounts and India-registered merchants, and cannot be used for cross-border payments except where expressly permitted by NPCI and the RBI.
To register, you must:
We may decline, suspend or terminate any registration that does not meet regulatory or operational requirements.
Registration is carried out in accordance with the process prescribed by NPCI and the PSP Bank, and may involve device binding, SIM verification, mobile number verification through an SMS sent from your device, bank account discovery, account linking, creation of a UPI ID, setting or resetting your UPI PIN, and any further verification required under Applicable Law.
UPI registration is device-specific and SIM-specific. If your device holds more than one SIM, selecting a SIM other than the one registered with your bank will cause verification or account discovery to fail. Registration may be permitted only on a device successfully bound during onboarding, and we may restrict simultaneous registration across multiple devices.
Authentication of the customer at the time of registration is performed by the PSP Bank. We may require you to re-authenticate, re-register or complete additional verification at any time where required for regulatory or security reasons.
On successful registration a default UPI ID is created for you. You may be permitted to create a limited number of additional UPI IDs, and to register, modify or deregister a UPI Number, subject to NPCI guidelines and platform availability.
We may modify, suspend or withdraw any UPI ID or UPI Number where required by Applicable Law, by NPCI or the PSP Bank, or on grounds of security or suspected fraud. On deregistration, your UPI IDs will cease to function and your UPI Number will be unlinked and released in accordance with NPCI guidelines.
Subject to enablement by the PSP Bank and NPCI, the Light Platform may allow you to:
UPI IDs created on the Light Platform are interoperable across all NPCI-compliant UPI applications. You may transact with users and merchants on any other UPI application in accordance with the NPCI interoperability framework.
The Light Platform supports collect requests only for person-to-merchant (P2M) transactions. A collect request is a request raised by a merchant asking you to authorise a payment from your linked account. You may approve it, decline it, or allow it to lapse. Approving a collect request is an authorised outgoing payment and, once authorised, is final and irrevocable.
The Light Platform does not support person-to-person (P2P) collect requests. You cannot initiate a collect request from the Light Platform, and you will not receive collect requests from other individuals within it. Collect requests may be further restricted or withdrawn for certain merchant categories in line with NPCI directions. Any dispute regarding the underlying goods or services is between you and the merchant.
UPI Lite is an on-device wallet under the NPCI UPI Lite framework that allows low-value payments without entering a UPI PIN, within the per-transaction, daily and balance limits prescribed by NPCI. UPI Lite may be linked to one eligible account at a time. Light does not hold or guarantee UPI Lite balances. Before deregistering, deleting your account, or changing your device or operating system, you must disable UPI Lite so that the residual balance is credited to your linked account; if you do not, you may need to approach your Issuer Bank directly to recover it.
Where supported, you may create, view, approve, pause, modify or revoke UPI AutoPay mandates. A mandate authorises recurring or future-dated debits from your linked account. Any debit made under a validly approved mandate is an authorised transaction. Certain mandates, including those linked to credit instruments, may be non-revocable and must be addressed directly with the issuer. Disputes with the merchant regarding the underlying goods or services are between you and the merchant.
Eligible users may link a RuPay credit card issued by a participating bank. Under NPCI rules, a RuPay credit card linked to UPI may be used only for person-to-merchant transactions and not for person-to-person transfers. Credit limits, authorisation, billing, interest, rewards, blocking and all card-related decisions rest solely with the issuing bank. Light acts only as a technology interface.
Where enabled, a pre-sanctioned credit line extended by a participating bank may be linked to UPI. Sanction, pricing, repayment terms and recovery are governed by the separate agreement between you and the lending bank, and Light is not a lender in respect of such facility.
All transactions are subject to limits prescribed by NPCI, the RBI, the PSP Bank, your Issuer Bank and Light, as amended from time to time. Per-transaction and per-day limits vary by transaction type and by the bank account you have linked; you should confirm the limits applicable to your account with your Issuer Bank.
Newly registered users are subject to a cooling period during which transaction values are restricted in accordance with NPCI guidelines, as notified on the Light Platform. We may additionally apply velocity checks, value caps or other risk controls for security, fraud prevention or regulatory reasons.
Light does not currently levy any charge on you for registering for or using UPI services, including person-to-person transfers and merchant payments. Your Issuer Bank may levy its own charges for certain UPI transactions. If we introduce any charge in future, it will be notified on the Light Platform before it takes effect, and continued use after that notification will constitute acceptance.
A UPI transaction is authenticated using your UPI PIN or another authentication mechanism approved by NPCI. Once successfully authorised, a UPI transaction is final and irrevocable and cannot be reversed, cancelled or recalled by Light.
Transactions may occasionally remain pending, fail, or be recorded as deemed-approved due to network, system or reconciliation issues at any participant in the chain. Where an account is debited but the beneficiary is not credited, reconciliation is carried out in accordance with NPCI operating procedures and the timelines prescribed by NPCI and the RBI.
You must verify the beneficiary name, UPI ID, UPI Number, account number, IFSC or QR code before authorising any payment. Light is not liable for a payment made to an unintended beneficiary where you have authorised the transaction.
You are solely responsible for the confidentiality of your UPI PIN, OTPs, passwords, biometrics and device credentials. Neither Light, nor the PSP Bank, nor NPCI, nor any bank will ever ask you for your UPI PIN or an OTP through any channel. Any transaction authenticated on your bound device using your credentials will be treated as authorised by you.
You must follow the Safe UPI Practices set out in Annexure A. We may restrict or refuse service on devices that are rooted, jailbroken, emulated, tampered with, or otherwise identified as compromised.
You must not use the UPI services to:
We may suspend access and report violations to the PSP Bank, NPCI, the RBI, FIU-IND, law enforcement and other competent authorities.
We may monitor transactions, account activity, device signals and behavioural patterns to detect fraud, financial crime and regulatory breaches, and may delay, decline, suspend or report a transaction where we reasonably suspect unlawful activity. You consent to such monitoring as a condition of using the UPI services.
If you notice an unauthorised transaction, suspect fraud, or lose your device or SIM, report it to us immediately through the in-app help section or at support@lightcred.com, and contact your Issuer Bank. Prompt reporting is a condition of the protections available to you under the RBI's directions on customer liability for unauthorised electronic transactions. We may hotlist, suspend or deregister any UPI ID, device or account where fraud or a security threat is identified.
We collect and process your personal data in accordance with Applicable Law, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and our Privacy Policy. Data may be shared with the PSP Bank, your Issuer Bank, NPCI, the RBI, FIU-IND, statutory authorities and authorised service providers where required for transaction processing, regulatory compliance or fraud prevention.
All payments data, including UPI transaction data collected for the purpose of facilitating UPI transactions, is stored only in India in accordance with the RBI's data localisation requirements.
Light acts solely as a TPAP and technology interface. Light is not a bank, does not accept deposits, does not hold customer funds, does not validate UPI PINs and does not settle transactions. Account debits and credits, PIN validation, settlement and all banking operations are performed by the PSP Bank and the participating banks; the UPI infrastructure is operated by NPCI. Accordingly, Light is not liable for failures, delays or errors attributable to NPCI, the PSP Bank, an Issuer Bank, a telecom operator or any other third-party infrastructure provider.
Light engages the following entities for the provision of UPI services. This list is maintained on the Light Platform and updated from time to time.
| Role | Entity |

Certain functionality may be delivered through software development kits, APIs or infrastructure provided by these partners, and limited transaction and device information may be processed by them for that purpose, subject to Applicable Law and contractual safeguards.
You may raise a transaction-related complaint from within the Light app by selecting the relevant transaction. Complaints are handled under NPCI's Unified Dispute and Issue Resolution (UDIR) framework, and a complaint may only become available after the cooling period prescribed by NPCI. We will route the complaint to the PSP Bank, the beneficiary bank or NPCI as applicable and update the status of your complaint within the app.

We will acknowledge a complaint within three (3) business days and endeavour to resolve it within thirty (30) days, or within such shorter period as may be prescribed under Applicable Law.
If your complaint remains unresolved, you may escalate in the following order:
We may suspend, restrict or terminate your access to UPI services without prior notice where required by Applicable Law, on the direction of the PSP Bank or NPCI, or on grounds of fraud, security risk or breach of these UPI Terms. UPI IDs inactive for the period prescribed by NPCI may be deactivated, and you will be informed of such deactivation. You may deregister from UPI services at any time from within the app, subject to completion of applicable verification.
UPI services are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not warrant uninterrupted availability, error-free operation or the successful completion of every transaction, and we do not warrant the availability of systems operated by NPCI, the PSP Bank, Issuer Banks, telecom operators or other third parties. Beneficiary names and account details displayed in the app are fetched from NPCI and bank systems and we do not warrant their accuracy. We do not endorse any merchant or payee accessible through UPI, and are not a party to any transaction between you and a payee.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with the UPI services shall not exceed INR 100 (Rupees One Hundred only). We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, punitive or special damages, including loss of profit, business, goodwill, opportunity or data.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Profitag Technologies Private Limited, its directors, officers, employees, the PSP Bank and its service providers against any claim, loss, penalty, damage or expense arising from your breach of these UPI Terms, misuse of the UPI services, disclosure of your credentials, incorrect payment instructions given by you, use of your device or credentials by a third party as a result of your act or omission, or your breach of Applicable Law.
We are not liable for any failure, interruption or delay in the UPI services caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including acts of God, natural disaster, epidemic, war, civil unrest, governmental action, cyberattack, power or telecommunications failure, internet disruption, NPCI downtime or PSP Bank outage.
We may amend these UPI Terms from time to time, including to comply with Applicable Law or directions of the RBI, NPCI or the PSP Bank. The revised UPI Terms take effect on publication on the Light Platform unless a later date is stated, and we will notify you through the app where required. Continued use of the UPI services after publication constitutes acceptance.
You may not assign your rights or obligations under these UPI Terms. We may assign or transfer ours to an affiliate, successor or authorised service provider, subject to Applicable Law and regulatory approval. A failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of it. If any provision is held invalid or unenforceable, it shall be severed and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force.
These UPI Terms are governed by the laws of India. Subject to any dispute resolution mechanism mandated by the RBI, NPCI or Applicable Law, the courts at Mumbai, Maharashtra shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
This Annexure forms an integral part of these UPI Terms. Compliance with these practices is a condition of your continued use of the UPI services.
Keep your UPI PIN strictly confidential. Do not disclose it to anyone, including family members, friends, or any person claiming to represent Light, YES Bank, NPCI, the RBI or any other authority. No legitimate entity in the UPI ecosystem will ever ask you for your UPI PIN.
Entering your UPI PIN authorises money to leave your account. You never need a UPI PIN to receive money, claim a refund, unlock a cashback, or collect a prize. Treat any such request as fraudulent, decline it, and report it to us.
Check the beneficiary's name, UPI ID, UPI Number, account number and IFSC on the confirmation screen before authorising. Once authorised, a UPI transaction is final and cannot be reversed by Light.
Approving a collect request sends money out of your account. You never need to approve a request in order to receive money, a refund, a cashback or a prize — any request framed that way is fraudulent, and this is among the most common forms of UPI fraud. Before approving, check the merchant name and the amount on the confirmation screen, and decline anything you were not expecting.
Do not install screen-sharing, remote-desktop or device-mirroring applications at the request of anyone offering to help you with a payment, a refund or account recovery. Light, YES Bank and NPCI will never ask you to install such an application or to share your screen.
Contact us only through the in-app help section or the channels published at www.lightcred.com. Do not rely on customer care numbers found through search engines, social media or unsolicited messages. We are not responsible for losses arising from your engagement with fraudulent support channels.
If you suspect an unauthorised transaction or that your account or device has been compromised, notify us at once through the in-app help section and contact your Issuer Bank. Prompt reporting is a condition of the protections available to you under the RBI's directions on customer liability for unauthorised electronic transactions; delay may affect your rights.
